Speculation that Donald Trump May Become the Next Speaker of the House
There’s a rising theory that former President Trump may be the next Speaker of the House. Trump’s current political aim seems to be leading the Republicans to a majority in the House of Representatives. The idea of Trump as the next Speaker could prod disaffected Trump voters to get out to the polls during the 2022 elections. This would be important because non-presidential elections, such as the 2022 election, generally draw significantly less voter turnout.
However, it does not appear the Donald Trump will be running for the U.S. House of Representatives. Rather, a seldom-known and never-before-used rule could lead to the House electing Trump as Speaker of the House. Apparently, the United Sates Constitution never states that the Speaker of the House must be an elected member of the House. While no non-elected official has ever been voted in as Speaker, non-elected officials have received a few votes throughout United States history.
A more extreme version of this theory sees Donald Trump elected as Speaker and then going on to impeach President Biden and Vice President Harris. The Speaker of the House is the next in succession to the Presidency meaning Donald Trump would once again be POTUS.
