Abbot Calls for Shutdown of Migrant Facility in San Antonio
Texas Governor Greg Abbot is calling for the shutdown of migrant facility in San Antonio. This comes after Abbot learned of several allegations of sexual child abuse occurring in the migrant camp. Abbot has been a vocal opponent of President Biden throughout the ongoing crisis at the Mexican-American border. Many have blamed the Biden administration’s action for the issue saying that Biden practically invited immigrants to come en masse. In fact, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol announced, “In March 2021, CBP encountered more than 172,000 persons attempting entry along the Southwest border. This total represented a 71 percent increase over February 2021.”
Abbot said:
"The Biden administration has caused this crisis and has repeatedly failed to address it. The Biden administration opened borders. The administration failed to plan for the influx of children that they invited to come. Now they face allegations of despicable child abuse and neglect. This must end."
Besides the sexual assault tips received by various Texas agencies, Abbot gave three other reasons for shutting down the Freeman Coliseum Expo Center and having those detained there sent to other locations.
“[T]here are not enough staff to safely supervise the children at this facility,” Abbot said. “Third, some children in this facility are not eating throughout the day. And fourth, children with COVID are not being physically separated from children without COVID."
