Laredo, TX Holiday Curfews Upset Citizens
The Laredo Police Department of Laredo, TX recent posted a Valentine’s Day themed post wishing residents a happy Valentine’s weekend. The post also read:
“We want to remind the community about the curfew that will begin this evening at 06:00 p.m…. This is not a lock down, the curfew only applies to social gatherings! To report a social gathering you can call (956)795-2800 or anonymously submit a tip by using our LaredoPD app.”
The City of Laredo issued curfews for the Super Bowl weekend as well as Valentine’s weekend. The city ostensibly ordered these curfews to prevent social gatherings during the back-to-back holiday weekends. LPD’s Facebook post has received much backlash from angry and annoyed commenters who want to enjoy their weekend unbridled.
One commenter wrote, “You can't tell people they can't get together!! Go find another way to feed your power hungry selves! The people of Laredo are sick of your bulls--t!!!!” Another tagged the Laredo Police Department and said, “I fully intend to break curfew. I plan on gathering in groups of ten or more. What are YOU going to do about it?”
“Disgraceful. Tyrannical actions should be willfully ignored!” This seemed to be the theme of the comments. The overwhelming majority were opposed to curfew while the comments varied in overt antagonism. One person sarcastically said “This is not a lockdown???? Riiiiiiight.”
It has yet to be seen how strictly the curfew will be enforced over Valentine’s weekend.
