Citizens of Heaven
On January 6th, 2021, chaos struck once again. The Save America Rally, which took place at the Ellipse, was a peaceful gathering of over a million Trump-Supporters. Towards the end of the gathering many started marching to stand outside the Capitol. Unfortunately, moments before the crowd of peaceful protesters arrived some anti-police protesters breached the perimeter set up around the Capitol Building. Some of these anti-police protesters eventually breached the Capitol Building itself.
Capitol police were unable to keep the protesters from entering the building and running amuck. Since the news broke many in the media have used this as an opportunity to paint President Trump and his supporters as violent - despite that being far from the truth. After hours of chaos, Congress was able to resume the certification process. Vice President Pence presented no challenge to the certification.
Now, Joe Biden has been certified as the next President of the United States. Additionally, Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock won both Senate seats from Georgia. This means that the Democratic Party, the party of infanticide, critical race theory, socialization, and other ungodly things, has control of the Legislative and Executive branches of government.
To conservative Christians, this may be cause for great concern. Indeed, so high are the stakes that many may fall into downright terror. Others may project copious amounts of anger at whatever they can. Now is a time to remember that Christians (even patriotic, MAGA-wearing, Star-Spangled loving, American Christians) have a citizenship in heaven (Philippians 3:20–21). The heavenly citizenship will always be more precious and important than the earthly one.
Therefore, we have nothing to fear, ultimately. Yes, there is cause for concern. Conservative Christians must work hard and fight for justice in this temporal realm. However, terror is not what Christ wants for his people. On the contrary, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Not that a Christian must suppress and deny his emotions. Rather, Christians must let the Spirit of God renew hearts and minds. In the midst of great political turmoil and uncertainty, massive reasons for gratitude still remain. The exodus out of sin and death accomplished by Jesus Christ is cause for continual joy, even when fear strikes and the world darkens. In every situation (including this current political climate) Christians are to offer praises and requests to the Lord. With cries of thanksgiving and distraught prayers to the Almighty, the peace of God will protect the hearts and minds on those who dwell in Messiah (Philippians 4:4–7).
Now is time for Christians to remember the old song:
“This world is not my home
I'm just passing through
My treasures are laid up
Somewhere beyond the blue
The Angels beckon me
From Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore
Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home
Then Lord what will I do”
