Dear Rush,

I became your listener in the summer of 1992 and I’ve been listening ever since. I quickly came to the conclusion that the bumper sticker, “Rush is Right” was correct. Your political savvy, humor, radio voice, and concern for your audience was an intoxicating mixture. I remember episodes where you took the time to tell your story and encourage others to follow their passion. You taught the world that passion is the foundation for any meaningful endeavor.

You pulled back the curtain on the biased nightly news, to which I stopped watching and listening. I knew I would get a complete rundown from you the next day. Your analysis taught critical thinking and listening to you continues to help me grow in that skill.  You have shaped generations of Americans and played the leading role in preserving our Republic.

I was in my car yesterday afternoon, and, like always, I turned on the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) network. I tuned in during a commercial break and then you came back on with your announcement. After you were done, not two minutes later, my son called. “Dad, did you hear Rush today?” We talked about the future and what this would mean for you and for the country.

As the conversation ended I realized the lasting legacy you have created. Because I listened to you and shared your insights and knowledge, my son now listens and is learning the same lessons. Thank you for influencing my children. You will never know me or my son but we know you and have learned life lessons from you.

A diagnosis of late-stage lung cancer is shocking. My sister suffered from that disease and it was hard on her and her family. You can be sure that we will be praying for you, your wife, your family, and your staff. I look forward to hearing about your victories during this battle. I’m sure you will handle this with the same aplomb as you do everything else.

Rush, we are grateful, thankful, and ready to stand with you during the coming days.

All my best,

Your Faithful Listener
