Spring Break Tips and Trends
Spring break is here and we are ready for it! The weather looks to be warming up and it’s the perfect time to unwind and show off your stylish spring clothing. Whether you are going to the beach, camping, or staying in town, here are a few spring fashion tips so you can look your best. You can also check out Vogue’s “Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear” page here for outfit ideas and evidence of these trends!
1.Scarves!
Scarves are back in a big way. Both thin and thick scarves have shown up on spring runways recently and here are a few ways to wear them.
If you’re walking romantically along the beach this spring break, you will probably need more than just your bikini. Even though we are ready for the hot weather, it’s still pretty cool out, especially at night, so a great tip is to drape your wide scarf over your shoulders to create a stylish, makeshift shawl.
In your hair! Scarves incorporated into hairdos are super popular right now. If you don’t believe me, just look on Pinterest. One of the most breezy, carefree looks is to tie your hair up with a colorful, thin scarf. Here is a 10-pack on Amazon that I recently purchased myself. They are affordable and good quality. Wearing a scarf in your hair just says, “I’m on vacation!” (even if you’re not!). You can wear them as a headband or hair wrap as well. Tying a bright scarf over your hair with a pair of cat-eyed sunglasses will have everyone asking you, “Where’s your convertible?” Really, there are endless ways to tie them and they add some casual glamour to your look.
Of course, wearing a scarf around your neck is a classic way to accessorize! As I mentioned, skinny bandana style scarves are making a huge comeback. They are both preppy and versatile. You can tie them a million ways and pair them with your patterned pedal pushers or capris for instant vintage chic. When you start to form a collection, you can also have one to match every outfit! If you’re going to be outdoors, they can also keep you cool and protect your neck from the sun.
Finally, tying a long skinny scarf into the belt loops of your white jeans can add color and catch the eyes of onlookers. You can also do this to add pizzazz to a sundress while cinching your waist.
2. Statement Earrings!
When you are going out for margaritas you’ll want to look your best. To easily dress up a colorful look, all you have to do is add some statement earrings! This season is all about big earrings. Pom-poms, tassels, beads, you name it! They are all the rage.
Wear these earrings with your hair in a sleek, low bun or ponytail. Here is a super chic pair on Amazon that comes in 13 different colors! Be sure to use lots of hairspray to catch any pesky fly-aways. With your hair tucked behind your ears, your earrings will stand out and be visible to all of your many admirers! This Spanish inspired look is hugely popular right now and we can see why. It looks good on everyone and is very easy to achieve.
To make your earrings stand out, you can also try the “wet hair” look. You know, the one where you look like you just sexy-ran out of the ocean and threw on a super cute outfit. To get this look, which is made popular by many celebrities including the Kardashians, start with damp hair. Layer on a ton of gel that won’t stick to your roots and comb your hair back for a controlled look, or simply run your fingers through it if you are going for the Jessica Alba Slo-Mo Running-Out-Of-The-Sea look.
3. Ruffles!
If you’re going for the big statement earrings and sexy slicked-back hair for your spring break night out, you should complete your Spanish flair with a ruffled dress. You can find a ton of these online, at various prices, but if you want something pretty inexpensive I would look at SHEIN.com. I have found some pretty great dresses there but it’s a hit or miss, so be warned! Here is one from shein.com that I think would be versatile and comfortable!
One-shoulder, asymmetrical, ruffled dresses are in right now but so are peasant blouses. So if you want to opt out of the dress, try pairing your above-mentioned hairdo and earrings with a cute peasant top and colorful shorts. Here is a lovely peasant blouse from Forever21 that's less than $20.
Off the shoulder, ruffled swimsuits are also very popular right now! They add a fun, relaxed vibe to your suit and come in a million bright colors.
Strappy, flouncy sundresses are also in! Wear one with a lot of ruffles and try playing around with different patterns for a unique spring look.
4. Statement Sunglasses!
Goodbye, boring old sunglasses! 2019 is bringing with it some bold choices, eyewear included. Try to find some sunnies that add to your outfit instead of just blending in. It’s just another way to flaunt your stuff this spring break!
Last spring/summer season, round sunglasses made a return. The Beatles would have been proud! This spring, cat-eyed glasses are making a big comeback, from the 50s of course. But the modern twist is wild colors! They come in bright reds, greens, yellows, and more. Romwe has some here that come in red, black, and yellow and are less than $2!
5. Tweed Suits!
The cat-eyed sunglasses aren’t the only vintage item trending this season; tweed is back! The pastel tweed suits for women can be seen across most runways this season, especially Chanel. These pretty suits are making us think of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. So if you’re looking to be professional this spring, look no further than a chic tweed suit with fringed edges. Here is a chic tweed blazer from Shein that has a ton of good reviews and is less than $30!
6. Swimwear!
2019 is going to be seeing a lot of ruffled swimsuits and bikinis as well as high-cut one-pieces with plunging necklines that stomp on the notion that one-pieces are prudish. Here is a super cute, belted, one-piece from Aerie that is on sale for less than $30!
These one-pieces feature clever cutouts and low backlines. The suits are reminiscent of the 80s but with a modern touch. The number one swimwear trend for 2019 is high cut! So get your hip bones ready because it’s their time to shine. We are also seeing a ton of belted one-pieces that add some flair to your look.
Pom-pom’d swimsuits are also big right now and give your look a fresh, fun flair.
Comfortable, lightweight cover-ups can turn your swimsuit into an outfit. Look for sheer, flowy sundresses that show a peek of your swimsuit, but are also suitable for into-town-runs.
This spring break is going to be wonderful. Using these tips will help you live your most glamorous life. Have a fabulous spring break, ladies and gentlemen!
