As the Border Crisis rages on, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection has confiscated more fentanyl in fiscal year 2021, which began in October, than all of fiscal year 2020. Border Patrol agents have had their hands full with drastically escalating increasing rates of illegal immigration and illicit drug smuggling.

“So far in Fiscal Year 2021, fentanyl seizures have already surpassed those from all of Fiscal Year 2020, with 6,494 through April 2021 compared to 4,776 for all of Fiscal Year 2020.”

Along with fentanyl, cocaine seizures by the Border Patrol were up by 41% from March to April according to the CPB. Additionally, heroin seizures were up by a startling 97%. According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, fentanyl seizures by the Texas Department of Public Safety were up 800% from April 2020 to April 2021.

 Abbott said to Fox News:

"I gotta tell you, there's a new dynamic about what's going on at the border that Americans need to know about, and that is increased apprehension of fentanyl coming across the border. Yes, there may be people coming across, but there are dangerous drugs coming across the border.”

Abbott tweeted that enough fentanyl has been confiscated to kill every person in New York State. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid possibly 1000% more potent than morphine. A mere two milligrams can kill depending on body size and tolerance. From May 2019 to May 2020, there were over 81,000 lethal drug overdoses. That’s the most recorded in a one year timeframe according to the CDC.
